The Adventures of Wally Fresh #6

The collaboration of eD & artist Turner Lange was solidified in print with the release of issue #6 of the Adventures of Wally Fresh at this years WonderCon in Anaheim, Ca. eD made a paper mask cutout (reminiscent of the comics back in the day) for the back cover.  eD mentioned that this will be the first in a line of paper masks based on characters from the Wally Fresh comic.
Here's a scan of the back cover.
Here's a Colored Version in normal print size in case anyone wants to print out their own Barry Mask.
More information on the Adventures of Wally Fresh can be found here:

New Website is Up & Running!

The new eDMcD3D website is up.  We are going to be making some changes with the Gallery and the Reel pages at some point.  We are very happy for eD, and definitely loved the SSP Logo link on the bottom of the main page.  The last version of the website had the link to the SSPlog as more of an easter egg.  Maybe this will boost traffic, we shall see.

New Website Soon...

eD has been busy toiling away at building a new website.  He had me grab some images for a gallery, and then he chose from then.  Then of course I went through again to pull out images like this...
although it looks kinda cool, and shows that he can model and texture things pretty well I didn't think it fit so well with his other renders that are much more... well... less creepy...
The new site should be up by this weekend.

Animation Race Character Models

eD & his friends entered the Animation Race contest which was a 12 day animation contest, based on a theme, character, and object supplied the day of the contest start date.  They ended up not making the deadline in time.  It was a sad few days at SSP, after the contest had ended.  I think that was primarily because eD slept almost an entire day after the contest.  He hardly slept throughout those 12 days, if I saw him at all I saw him working.  he even moved his new computer down into the living room so that he could work while watching TV and "being social" with his roommates.

The theme was aging, the character was a mother, and the object was a bottle.  They ended up going with eD's first idea which was a mother fly talking to her maggot children inside of a broken bottle on the side of the road.  I haven't even seen the finished version but it seems that eD made it back into the files this morning, when he sent me these work in progress images of the characters he created for the short.
Maggot Designs, at first they had arm nubs with mitten-like hands.

Fly Mama final Textured & Rigged Model
I'm pretty sure the short will be released at some time, I just have no idea when.  eD may be reworking some animation before shoving it out into the world.  I'm not really sure, he hasn't told me anything, and he likes to change the subject a lot...

Month of Catch Up In One Post!

-The last movie that eD worked on at Stereo D, Captain America, was released nation-wide back in July 2011 and eD's name was in the credits of the regular and the 3D versions!  It was right in the middle of the Depth Artists portion towards the end of the credits.  Speaking of 3D movies that eD worked on, both Thor and Captain America are out on DVD & BluRay.  We won't see any of that money, but in case you didn't know, now you know...

-eD returned to work at Rhythm & Hues as an Asset Manager (his job consisted of working in Max, Maya, Lightwave, and a game engine that he had never worked with before, a lot of organization, and being a go between with the game company.) Though I can't tell you anything about it, because he had to sign an NDA and hasn't even told me anything besides riddles that I don't even remotely understand.

-eD went to Comic-Con for the 3rd time in 3 years. From the hours of him excitedly rambling about it afterwards, it sounded like he had fun.

-While eD missed out on the Tim Burton exhibit even though it lasted about 3 months, at least he was able to see the Stan Sakai exhibit at the Japanese American National Museum.

-eD also started experimenting with real art, painting and working on masks (both real and paper). I will have images once anything major is finished or I am able to post about it. Some stuff is still pretty hush hush, we are anticipating one collaboration for further fun times.

-Currently eD is working on a short animation project of his own creation. A personal project that we here at SSP are extremely excited about. eD has gathered friends of all different backgrounds for their help and critiques throughout the pre-production process, and a few are even going to help in the actual production of the short. eD has been toiling away on concept art, script, story & character breakdowns, he even starting modeling some characters earlier this week. I will be allowed to post certain things at certain stages but he doesn't want to ruin any surprises so it may be a little sparse on updates through the process. Once certain stages are met, I will be able to post the updates that won't be spoilers to the final animation.

-Finally, from Feb 23rd to March 6th eD along with his friends Ben Mitchell, Ruthie Aslan and Rich Devletian (aka "TeamBERR") will be competing in an animation contest called Animation Race 2012 which challenges participants to create short animated films over the course of 12 days (300 hours to be exact) based on a theme, character, and object assignment. I believe eD will be posting some updates of that on here but you will have to wait until at least Feb 23rd for any of those updates...

tons of stuff on the horizon, just wait and see...

A Windy Day (and some WIP images as well)

"A Windy Day"
eD sent this to me the night of the 4th of July.  I think maybe it had something to do with all the random fireworks going off around his house in LA scaring the clouds or something.  I don't really know, that's all purely speculation.  It made me chuckle though.  He also sent me some other images to "do with as I saw fit".  Didn't want to spare any of them considering nothing has been posted in a while, so here we go...
Original idea sketch from June 2010
Another quick iPad sketch on July 4th
Some morph test renders of the cloud without cloud fx
Cloud FX pass & Alphas (I thought it looked kinda funny)
A test FX pass eD called "Accidental Fowl" that looks a bit like duck feathers, eD must have saved it for a reason...
I think eD is back in creative mode... now I wonder what will be next...

Thor Credits...

A few people sent me pictures of the credits from Thor, I looked through them and edited one to show where eD's name was.  Still very blurry to see but that's understandable considering the movie was in stereoscopic 3D...
Still unsure if whether his name will be in the credits of Captain America or not.  Though he will be credited on IMDB soon enough...

In other news Captain America will be eD's last stereoscopic conversion movie (at least for a while).  Starting on July 5th eD will be back working at Rhythm & Hues commercial division "the Box" where he will be working on more video game cinematics.  More Info once I am able to give it.  But since his schedule won't be insane like it has been the last 9 months or so there should be some new renders, models, and artsyness coming out soon.  He has been holed up like a hermit in his house except when he is enjoying his hammock during his mini vacation before getting back to work.  Still not sure if he has gotten over his caffeine withdrawal yet though.  Suppose time will tell...
